“Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His Holy Name.” Psalm 103:1

At one of our Women’s Christian Fellowship Retreats, my dear friend, Babsie Bleasdell, gave a talk about our souls.  We learned our souls are our memory, our will and our intellect/understanding.  She suggested to us that we be attentive to our souls.  My favorite message for that weekend talk was, “Do not be downcast, O my soul!”

I began to take that message very seriously.  When I am feeling discouraged, I tell my soul, “Do not be discouraged!”  When I am afraid, I use God’s Word to lift me and I speak His Word to my soul.  As an example, “Fear is useless, what is needed is trust.” Mark 5:36

Whatever my need of the moment is, I proclaim His Word to my soul.  The power of His Word consoles helps and strengthens me in my very soul.  Especially blessing the Lord in my soul for all He has done for me reminds me of His grace and mercy.  If I can get my soul focused on the power of His love then the enemy has no power over me.
