“As your Word unfolds, it gives light and the simple understands.” Psalm 119:130

I have often thought, “I’ll never understand the things of God, they are beyond me.”  When I first began to read the Bible I did so because I wanted to know more about God.  He had healed me from an incurable disease, even when I was not seeking healing.  I wanted to know more about our generous, loving, merciful God.  As I began to read the Bible it seemed as if I didn’t know where to begin.  The only thing that seemed to make sense were the Gospels and some of Psalms.  I certainly didn’t understand the harsh, imprecatory language of the Psalms and never wanted to read Job in case that very thing would happen to me!  One day a friend who had been reading and studying Scripture for years, suggested that I pray and ask the Holy Spirit to give me understanding before I would read.  That was a new concept to me and so I did.  When I asked the Holy Spirit to give me understanding, He did.  What a difference.  I now realize that the Bible is written so that ordinary believer can understand God’s love and plan for them.  “ We have received the Spirit that comes from God, to teach us to understand the gifts that He has given us” 1 Corinthians 2:12
